An outstanding translation of post-WWII German classic
The first thing you'd notice about this book would almost certainly be its size: it's a facismile of the manuscript, which was produced on DIN A4 size paper - about the size of a newspaper page. John Woods, the translator, has done an amazing job of moving the German text into English - with the handwritten annotations carefully reproduced, the original graphics moved over as well. And once you've finished marvelling at the technical achievement here, you'll be pleasantly surprised that it's a fascinating book to read as well

The Evergreen Wood
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Nelson (August, 1992)
Authors: Alan Perry and Linda Perry
Average review score:

Nice Story
Very nicely illustrated. You can tell that this is a re-telling of Pilgrims Progress but thankfully it's not over-worked as such. Instead of being heavily loaded with allegory, it is a delightful story for children. I loved it.

Bikes from the beginning of time...
This is a great book to see wonderful pictures and to experience what made some of the earliest bicyles different. Each picture comes with a small description of the bike, such as year and name. This is quite helpful in determining if you really bought what you think you did.

This book is a must for every bike Enthusiast, and a gotta have for all vintage or modern bike collectors. I give it 5 stars!

Finally made it--a student teacher of children with LD
This is the text I used in my graduate studies at Arizona State University. It is an excellent book--very well orangized and easy to read. It was used for grad students as well as undergraduates. It provides a comprehensive overview for all the exceptionalities of students. Each chapter provides the following: historical overview, definition of the disability, characteristics, causes, incidence and prevalence, assessment, classroom adaptations and modifications, family perspectives, current issues and future trends. Each chapter ends with a five-minute summary and study questions. This is one of the better textbooks I have used in my studies.

explaining endometriosis
When the Dr. told me she thought I had Endo, I went out and got a book to explain what endo was. This book is really wonderful, it is very easy to read and taught me a lot about what endo was and what the different ways to treat it are. I found this book to be really informative.

Explaining International Relations Since 1945
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (June, 1996)
Author: Ngaire Woods
Average review score:

An absolute must for any student of international politics
Short yet comprehensive, very filled but perfectly readable, ambitious yet realistic. Both useful and enjoyable. Good for any student of International Relations at any level, but also for the average cultured person. The book aims not just at telling the history of international relations since 1945, but also at explaining them. In fact, it probably does both things, and in an excellent way ! It provides different and conflicting interpretations, offering the authors' views but without dismissing others. All in all, an excellent reading.

Explorations in Economic Liberalism: The Wincott Lectures
Published in Hardcover by Palgrave Macmillan (August, 1996)
Authors: Geoffrey E. Wood and Harold Wincott
Average review score:

What Better Memorial to a fine Business Journalist
This book is a collection of some of the Lectures given in honour of Harold Wincott, a journalist on the London Financial Times who died at an early age in 1969. Wincott was a journalist who throughout his career championed liberal capitalism in the face of an ascendant and then dominant Keynesian economic consensus. Ahead of his time Wincott was one of a few voices in the wilderness whose time came as the sixties and seventies developed into times of economic crises when the limits of keynesianism and collectivism were brutally exposed. Upon his death two of the stalwarts of the free market think-tank, the Institute of Economic Affairs, Ralph (later Lord) Harris and Graham Hutton organised a charitable appeal to establish a Foundation in his name. The appeal reached and exceeded it's target in a short space of time and the Wincott Foundation has since then organised an annual lecture series and awards to financial journalists. I would highly commend to Amazon readers "The Business of Capitalism" which brings together a selection of Harold Wincott's Financial Times articles.

Explorations in Economic Liberalism contains some of the Wincott Lectures. Over the years some of the most famous free market economists in the world have used the opportunity of an invitation to speak at a Wincott lecture to bring to a wider audience some of the most theoretical concepts in a clear and understandable manner which I am sure would have met with Harold Wincott's total approval.

Milton Friedman begins the volume with a paper on the counter-revolution in monetary theory which is a lucid exposition of the central tenents of monetarism. James Meade , in the second paper apllies his customary analytical skill to a consideration of wages and pricing in a mixed economy with particular emphasis on the labor market. Friedrich Hayek's concern is with the temptations which bear on democratically elected government and their subsequent impact on the economic system. Lionel Robbins looks at postwar economic policy in Britain while Alan Peacock looks at the survival of liberal economic ideas and their promulgation in the future.

Alan Walters main concern too is the performance of the British economy in the post war years and the crucial role that money plays in the economic system. George Stigler examines the relationship between business and regulation and argues for less of the latter. Deepak Lal offers a critique of developmental planning in the third world in view of the overwhelnming evidence being collected against it. Anna Schwartz returns to the question of money in her exposition on currency boards while finally Jagdish Bhagwati further promotes the benefits to be gained from free trade in a paper concerning the new World Trade Organisation.

This volume offers a wealth of economic ideas from some of best minds in economics in a way that can be understood by the average reader. While some of the concepts may be difficult one common theme is that freedom benefits everyone through free markets and free trade. Governments, supposedly for the people have their own agenda and their own interests at heart. It is an excellent book and should be on the reading lists of any worthwhile economics program.
